Episode 5 - Don Meanies first heartache (Part 2)

Burny and Bares' new appearances were totally altered at the 'factory'.  They looked almost exactly like those bears that Chubby had taken care of in the club.  The heart tags were placed just right and the smell of burned fur and wood was almost gone from Burny.  Bare felt so good about his new look that he regained his confidence and walked tall again.

They knew they had arrived in Chicago when the truck bumped the loading dock. The two jumped off the dock and down an ally before anyone saw them.  Don Meanie had given them specific instructions to get inside the Oakbrook 'factory' and find out what was going down.

The 'factory' wasn't hard to find but getting in could prove difficult.  Burny and Bare would have to convince the heavy security they were members of the 'family' and not 'frauds'.

Feeling ready, they approached the security mugs.  Burny said, "We was down in Jersey for awhile.  We got information about Don Meanie for Don Tye." One of the mugs who looked like a big weasel says to Burny, "You bears know you can come and go as you want.  You are the big cheeses here."  Bare says,  "Yea, we know, it's just good to be back on our turf, that's all."

They had pulled it off.  Walking inside, Burny breathed a sigh of relief.  "We did good, now let's find what we came for and get back to Jersey."

They went into a huge open area with offices on each side.  Many of the Chicago 'family' members were sitting around laughing and playing games of one kind or another.  At the other end of the room was an office with two big dogs standing by the door.  "That must be Don Tye's office."  Bare says.  "Burny pointed and says,  "Here he comes now."

Don Tye entered the room and everyone stood up to greet him.  He got right to business. "You mugs know why I called you all in today.  We gotta take care of that eight legged ratchit-fratchit Silver, down in Jersey, and Don Meanie if he gets in our way.  I'm gonna ask for a meet with that slimy fish and while we're having the sit, two of our capo's are going to take Silver down.  He did us wrong in Vagas and he got away then.  It won't happen again. Tony took from our 'family' and we took care of him.  If Silver thinks he can get away with what's ours, he's wrong and he's about to find out!"

Burny and Bare had no idea what Silver had done but from what they had just heard, they knew it could be the start of a war not seen since the bean wars of many years ago.

After Don Tye went into his office, some of the mugs were leaving, Burny and Bare joined them and slipped outside.

"We gotta let Don Meanie know what's going down here.  Let's find a phone and call the club." Bare had no sooner finished when this she-bear came up to him and slapped him. Where have you been Valentino?!?  You were supposed to be home two nights ago!"  Of course Bare didn't know who she was but it was apparent she knew the mug he was impersonating.

Burny was both stunned and impressed by the way Bare handled the situation. "forgetaboutit doll,  I was doin business for Don Tye.  Now you go home and I'll be there soon."  That said,  he gave her a kiss.  "Why you work for that tyrant I'll never know."  She said.  "Bring something nice home for your Valentina, won't you?"  "Yea doll, see you in a little while."  As she walked away, Burny gave Bare a slap on his back and said.  "You were cool as could be.  I can't believe you pulled that off."  Bare said, I don't believe it either, I guess the new me took control.  We gotta find that phone.  There must be one in the diner across the street."

They entered the diner and were about to use the phone when they heard glass breaking.  A mug in a booth in the back came running to the front door hollering,  "I've been hit!  I've been hit!"  He was losing beans fast.  He fell to the floor and went silent.  Two BIG mugs walked in and swept him away.  Before leaving, one of them says,  "nobody saw nothin, understand'?!.  He looked at everyone as though he where looking eye to eye at each one and then they were gone.

Bare says to Burny.  "Call Don Meanie, tell him what we heard.  Tell him to get us otta here."  When Burny hung up after telling Don Meanie the story, he turned to Bare and said. "We gotta get back to that dock, a brown truck will be there and we have to get in without being seen."

They made their way back just as the truck was backing to the dock.  They waited for the driver to go into the shippers' office and slipped into the back behind a large crate.  Other crates were loaded on the truck and off they went, back to Jersey.
